2009 Annual Membership Meeting

The 2009 ABAA annual membership meeting was held on October 10, 2009 in Clarington, Ohio.  Aaron and Charlene Miller of eastern Ohio were hosts for the meeting, farm tours and social gatherings.  Members from Alabama, Kentucky, Louisiana, Ohio, Oklahoma, Texas, Virginia and West Virginia attended the meeting chaired by President Clayton Bryant.  The reports on membership and registrations were positive.  The president announced that members now may now submit their business cards for advertising on the Market Page and also use pictures in their ads on that page.  Information will be provided to the members on these opportunities.   Special guests included the district representative of the Ohio Farm Bureau and Marty Clark of the Washington County Career Center.  He spoke about the value of farm business planning and analysis for all involved in agriculture.  Three directors were elected to the board:  Doug Diebold, Janella Garrett and Philip Leibold.  Lunch for the meeting was provided by the Eastern Star Ladies of Clarington and featured Blonde beef from the Millers.  The members accepted the offer of Clayton and Barbara Bryant to host the 2010 annual meeting at their farm in Andalusia, AL.

Following the meeting members and guests toured three farms in the area where the Millers raise their Blonde cattle.  On Sunday morning the tours continued, concluding with a chili lunch at the home of Brad Miller who partners with his dad and brother Craig in raising Blonde cattle.

The weather for the meeting was perfectly beautiful, and the fall foliage was stunning.  Views of the mountains, fall colors and good Blonde cattle will be remembered by all.

The ABAA directors met in conjunction with the annual meeting and made two important decisions:  a newsletter will be issued twice yearly in late November and in August, and a membership directory will be published in April.  The board regretfully accepted the resignation of Conrad Comeaux and appointed John Cremeans of OH to complete his term.  Officers elected for the next year include these:  President - Doug Diebold of OK; Vice-President - Aaron Miller of OH; Secretary - Janella Garrett of TX; and Treasurer - Cliff Easley of MS.  The board decided to meet next in April, 2010 in Memphis, TN.
